Prednisone Generic Name for Steroids:
Prednisone is the generic name of a prescription medication used as treatment of different conditions. It works mainly as corticosteroids or simple steroids. It a synthetic medicine that is taken orally and is prescribed for certain conditions which affects the immune system such as; asthma, bronchitis, arthritis, colitis, skin allergies and other inflammatory conditions particularly of the nose and the eyes.

The synthetic corticosteroids in the drug works just like the cortisol hydrocortisone, the naturally-producing corticosteroid being produced by the body through the adrenal glands. Corticosteroid have many vital uses for the body but mostly they are good and powerful anti-inflammatory substances.

As prednisone is not an actively produced substance in the body, it should be converted to prednisolone by the enzymes present in the liver. It is therefore not recommended for people with liver diseases to take this drug as it will not be effective since the vital body part needed for it to work is impaired.

This is a prescription drug available as generic and come in tablet forms of 2.5 mg., 5 mg., 10 mg., 20 mg. and 50 mg. also in oral syrup solution as 5mg/5ml. it should be kept and stored at room temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F) and must be kept from moisture.

Aside from the mentioned conditions, Prednisone is also used for treatment of Crohn’s disease most commonly known as regional enteritis, which is an kind of an intestinal inflammatory disease that affects any part of the long gastrointestinal tract (from mouth to anus). This type or intestinal disease causes a variety of symptoms like; abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea (when the inflammation is severe), vomiting and weight loss.

Prednisone is also proved to be an effective treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus or SLR or simply lupus. This is a very rare disease wherein the immune system attacks the body’s tissues and cells that will result in inflammation and sever tissue damage. This disease is considered a Type III hypersensitivity reaction that is caused by the formation of the antibody-immune complex.

This drug is also used as accompanying medication for treatment of certain cancers such as leukemia and lymphomas.

The preliminary dose of Prednisone differs depending on the condition or disease that is being treated and the age of the patient. The initial dose may vary from 5 to 60 mg a day and mostly adjusted depending on how the condition responds to the treatment.
